Information to Authors

Gomal Journal of Medical Sciences (GJMS) is published biannually by Gomal Medical College, Dera Ismail Khan, Pakistan
It follows the uniform requirements for submission of articles.

Submission of Manuscripts

Please submit two copies, with an additional one on the CD in MS Word format.

Manuscripts containing original material are accepted only. Neither the article nor any part of its essential substance should be submitted for publication elsewhere before appearing in this journal.

A covering letter, containing the undertaking, certifying the originality of the work and that it is neither published nor submitted for publication elsewhere, duly signed by the Principal author should accompany the manuscript.

Title Page

Please include a title page with the list of authors duly signed. The list should identify the Principal author and Co-authors in order desired to appear in the print.

The person responsible for future inquiry should be identified and his address along with telephone /fax /cell number /e-mail address should be given.

Acknowledgements to be included should also be given on this page.

Language

The native languages of Editors are Urdu and Pushto but GJMS is published in English.

Try to follow the British English but do not hesitate to use American English where convenient.

Abstract

It should be provided on a separate page, not exceeding 250 words. It should have the following sub-headings:
Background, Material and Methods, Results, and Conclusion.

Keywords

Three to five key words per manuscript should be given.

Original Article

The main part of the original research article should have the following sub-headings:
Introduction, Material and Methods, Results, Discussion and Conclusion.

Abbreviations

Standard abbreviations should be used only.

For every abbreviation the full word should be given at first with abbreviation in parenthesis.

Tables and Illustrations

Each table should have a number and brief title.

Illustrations should be of good quality.

Each table or illustration should have an accompanying legend.

If a table or an illustration has been reproduced from a published work the source must be given.

The author must obtain permission to reproduce the previously published material or illustrations that may identify human subject.

References

References should be given in digits as superscripts within the text, as in the standard medical journals.

Vancouver style should be followed, e.g. 1. Fiel NJ. The lecture: increasing student learning. Med Educ 1976; 51: 496-9.

Journal titles should be abbreviated as in Index Medicus.

In case of more than six authors, et al should be added after six authors.

Units of Measurements

Systems International (SI) units to be preferred where possible.

Drug Names

Generic names of drugs are preferred. Where essential the brand names can be given in parenthesis.

Permissions

Material taken from other sources must be accompanied by written statement from both the author and publisher giving permission for production.

Review and Publication

Gomal Journal of Medical Sciences (GJMS) is a peer-reviewed journal. Manuscripts are initially examined by the Editorial Board and then sent to at least two reviewers, one from Pakistan and another from a developed country in the field of medical research. Comments of reviewers are conveyed to the authors if deemed necessary for correction.

Rejected manuscripts are returned back to authors. Accepted ones are kept on the waiting list for publication.

The authors agree that Gomal Journal of Medical Sciences (GJMS) owns the copyright of all the material submitted for publication. GJMS has the right to reproduce, transmit, publish or distribute the contribution in the journal or otherwise.

For every published work, two copies of the journal will be supplied to the principal author free of cost. More copies can be purchased on advance payment.
